Apple to honor price protection on BTO Mac mini
January 26, 2005 - 13:04 EST
Following yesterday's price drops on certain build-to-order (BTO) Mac mini components, Apple said it will refund the difference to affected purchasers, according to MacMinute readers. "I spoke with Apple Customer Service this afternoon and they will honor price protection for those that purchased the mini within the last 14 days. You must call," a MacMinute reader writes. As reported yesterday, Apple quietly cut prices on the BTO components for its new Mac mini, offering the Bluetooth and AirPort Extreme wireless option for US$99 (was $129), the 1GB DDR333 SDRAM upgrade for $325 (was $475), and the 80GB ultra ATA hard drive upgrade for $50 (was $80).
Meanwhile, several readers report that the BTO SuperDrive shipping in Mac mini systems is the same 8x SuperDrive that was just listed yesterday. Strangely, however, Apple has changed the option on its online store back to a 4x SuperDrive as of 1:00 p.m. ET. Apple Customer Support is also reportedly telling customers that the "8x" drive mentioned yesterday still only burns DVDs at 4x--and only reads DVDs at 8x.
