Over 80,000 Pre-orders for Airport Express
July 14, 2004 - 08:35 PDT
Apple today officially announced it is shipping AirPort Express (see yesterday's report). The US$129 device, which was announced in early June, can be plugged directly into the wall for wireless Internet connections (up to 10 simultaneous users) and USB printing. Airport Express also features analog and digital audio outputs that can be connected to a stereo and new AirTunes music networking software that wirelessly streams music to any room in the house. Apple also notes in the press release that it has received more than 80,000 pre-orders for AirPort Express.
"With over 80,000 pre-orders, AirPort Express is off to a great start as the first 802.11g mobile base station for Mac and PC users," said Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "With the breakthrough AirTunes feature, music lovers can now listen to their iTunes music collection streamed wirelessly to a stereo located anywhere in their home."
